In which an empire sinks

Monday, January 5th, 2009

The empire is on quicksand, or so says Paul Craig Roberts. Is he correct? Is the US sinking ever more deeply into its own demise? It would seem so from reading some on the inside and outskirts of American-libertarian circles, but at the same time, the US has seen worse crises and I’m skeptical as to whether this will be the one to bring it to its knees. Though I do hope that the current economic crisis will stop the cancer of the imperial United States of America for good, I remain unimpressed with - though hopeful for - the prospective forecasts. I think libertarians would do well to realize that evil is really quite resilient to potions and cures - even if they seem the perfect storm to sink the ship.

Then again, though, to think that a recovery from this recession will mean a recovery from the coming decade remains equally naive. Even if the US does “recover” from this longest recession since WWII, the “recovery” could be just as long and painful as the recession - probably leading to a double-dip downturn in 2012-2013. As I’ve said before, the US will probably face the same situation that Japan faced in the 1990’s, with perhaps slightly more pain and length.

In which Che lives on

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

Boohoo, some libertarians may reply to the resurgence of Ernesto Che Guevara. How wrong those libertarians are!

As good Murray N. Rothbard (1960’s Rothbard) understood, far from just pure Marxist-Leninism, Che represents an air of revolution and dynamism for the oppressed youth of Latin America; a revolution that is sorely overdue. So, how can this resurgence of Che mean anything but good if it leads to the overthrowing of oppressive Latin American governments in South America?

I can see how Che may not be the kindliest of figures, but if it leads to good, then who is to argue with that?

4 January 2009

I’m freshly home from the holidays and am getting back to my email and my
feed reader and the rest of that big ol’ interweb after some good family time.

So, today: a few bits and pieces that accumulated during my absence:

In which fighting a bully is not a sin

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

When casualties go down only because so many have already died, you know the attacker is one vicious son of a bitch. That’s exactly the result of the malicious attacks by Israel on innocent men, women, and children in Palestine.

So, when a monster state begins targeting civilians, as Israel has been doing for decades, what more is there to do than fight it out by shooting back? At what point were Palestinians obligated to lay down and die for Israel’s continued expansion policy of a Jewish manifest destiny? In any objective view, Hamas committed the only just act by fighting against the Israeli beast. What else should it continue to do except for fight the good fight against an obviously evil institution?

So let George W. Bush blame Hamas; after all, if that’s what Bush thinks, what could be true except for the opposite?

In which minor successes are monitored

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Well, the Ethiopian demons are beginning their long awaited pull out from Somalia. Absolutely, this should be considered one of the greatest victories for the Somali people in a great while; the bravery and honor that Somali Islamists fought with further proves why I am so admiring of their culture.

That being said, however, the fight is not over. The African Union is now beginning to occupy places where Ethiopia once did and though at least the catalyst of Ethiopia is long gone, what remains of the old ICU appears to be shattered fragments of a backwards movement known as al-Shabab and a moderate-Islamist force now calling itself Ahlu-Sunna Wal-Jama.

With any luck, the moderate Islamists lead by men like the most honorable Sheikh Sharif Sheik Ahmed.

In which the backwater might possess a grain of truth

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Far and wide, I’ve always considered those that claim “the Jews own everything,” to be rather amusing jokes from backward perspectives of thought and manner. Looking at recent events, however, has made me question whether or not the Jews - or more precisely, the Israelis - really aren’t out to control every outlet of news media on the face of the earth.

It was an interesting find, after all, to see that the Huffington Post, which is usually fairly respectable, has completely sold out to Israel as well - at least according to Justin Raimondo.

Just food for thought.

In which evil reaches new heights

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Over at CounterPunch, Paul Craig Roberts expresses a measure of surprise - or at least dismay - in the apparent apathy of Barack Obama to the plight of Palestinians now facing imminent death from a blood thirsty Israel looking only to completely wipe the Gaza strip off the face of the earth with bombs and bullets.

Actually, I’m surprised about the “Change Messiah” too, but only that he doesn’t support the Israeli invasion more actively. Of course, his silence is a form of support for the Israeli vampires, but considering that support for Israel drills deeply into the Impostor’s bones, it’s hard to understand why the man isn’t coming out directly to erect massive death camps for Arabs around a newly rebuilt temple of Solomon. Well, maybe not difficult, after all, did Stalin and his ilk come out directly to announce the genocide of over 7 million Ukrainians?

Why shouldn’t libertarians cut their losses on the American experiment?

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Reason TV posted an interesting video earlier that articulates some portion of the free-market perspective to the current financial bailouts going on in the US. Most in the interview feel justifiably pessimistic about liberty’s chances against the tidal wave of statism already on the rise, however, some on the panel - like Len Gilroy - believe that the government’s debt and increasing motivation to finance bailouts could lead to an increase in pressure on the government to cutback spending and “privatize” later. Though this optimism is appreciated, it appears contradicted by the government’s ultimate ability to further mess things up, and if history shows anything, only one result seems possible. Luckily for libertarians, though, the collapse of the American political-economic system is the exact one we should be rooting for anyways.

Now, some may find this less than satisfactory, but given all other alternatives - though inevitably none really exist - the need for the American economy to collapse can be seen just by considering the most realistic path to getting to a free and voluntary society. That is, what do you think is more likely to happen, will the American government suddenly come to reason and cease to exist, pulling out all imperial bases and demolishing its hegemonic capitalism for a free alternative, or will the collapse of the American system be met with a vacuum by which libertarians possess just as much opportunity as anyone to get out from under the state’s foot? We all know its the latter, so why bother worrying? Why not root it on to push it off the edge at last?

Special thanks to Arnold Kling on this one.

In which chubby New York Times op-ed columnists really don’t care about the poor

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

Reading Thomas Friedman’s op-ed this morning made me want to slam my head against my desk. In it, Friedman echoes the words of his fellow elites in begging the state to start kicking harder and faster at America’s poor. I am talking, of course, of the collectivist cry for a carbon tax.
